Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about growing and caring for your David Austin roses.

When is the best time to plant my new roses?

Bare root roses should be planted between November and April while they are dormant. Potted roses can be planted year-round, provided the ground is not frozen or waterlogged.

How do I care for my roses during the first year?

The most important factor is regular watering, especially during dry spells. We also recommend applying a specialized rose fertilizer in early spring and again in early summer to encourage healthy blooms.

What is the David Austin Roses guarantee?

We take great pride in the quality of our roses. All of our varieties are guaranteed to grow; if a rose fails to settle or grow within five years of purchase, we will offer a replacement or a credit.

How are my roses packaged for shipping?

Our roses are carefully hand-packed in breathable, moisture-retentive materials. Bare root roses are sent in protective sacks, while potted roses are secured in specially designed cardboard boxes to prevent damage during transit.

Can I grow David Austin roses in pots or containers?

Yes, many of our varieties are perfectly suited for large containers. We recommend choosing a pot that is at least 18 inches deep and using a high-quality loam-based compost.

What should I do if my rose arrives damaged?

If your order arrives in less than perfect condition, please contact our customer service team within 48 hours with photos of the damage, and we will arrange for a replacement immediately.
